Old Boys will be Old Boys
In 1947, Transport Bus Services donated a large cup for annual competition between Past and Present teams of the Club. The first match was played between the Senior and the 1939 Senior teams representing the Past.
The success of this event sparked the formation of the Suburbs Old Boys Association the following year, in 1948. This branch of the Club, with its ideals set down as "to foster the interests of the Suburbs Rugby Club", has retained a connection over the years with the Club's many ex-players, coaches and administrators. Even today they play a vital part in support of the Club.
Such functions as the "Christmas Do", Old Boys' Day", and more recently "the Bar-B-Que", were to become fixtures on the Suburbs calendar. The game for the Transport Cup has become an established annual event - these days the Seniors are asked to swap their forwards and backs around, but the matches are still fiercely contested. And the Old Boys have always acquitted themselves with honour, having taken the trophy on many occasions.
